Jazz

Welcome!

I am a life-long jazz-lover.  The ironic, clever, and sly lyrics by Cole Porter, George Gershwin, and the rest of the Great-American Songbook composers have always captured my imagination.  And they were brought to life so elegantly by the likes of Ella Fitzgerald, Billie Holiday, Louis Armstrong, Dinah Washington, and so many more. And the great instrumentalists throughout jazz history such as Frank Rosolino, Sonny Rollins, Louis Armstrong again, Dave Brubeck, and too many more to list also fill my CD collection.  And I haven’t even mentioned the modern masters Diana Krall, Wynton Marsalis, Wycliffe Gordon, John Pizzarelli, and so many more.

With regret, I did not take jazz improvisation lessons when I was younger.  But I now pursue it and am sure to pass on to students what my own education lacked.  So join me through this part of my website as I share my development, some performances, and my article, Pathways to Jazz Improvisation.  It has inspired several readers to write me kind notes about how it has helped them get their own improvisation off the ground.

Enjoy!
